This 1992 Corrado SLC/VR6 is owned by one of Apex Tuning’s owners, Kevin C. He purchased the car in 2007 from a local enthusiast and long time friend. As with any other Corrado, the first steps included catching up on maintenance and working out all of the kinks to make sure that the car was a reliable candidate for the extensive work to come.

The “Yarrado” has been a long term project, which began with the addition of a turbo kit in 2009. In early 2011, Kevin decided to go all in and transform the Corrado into a beautiful show car while maintaining the insane performance that the turbocharged VR6 delivers. This included swapping the almost-stock VR lump with a fully built and overbored 2.9 block complete with Schimmel head and 6-speed 02M transmission. As you can see below, supporting all of this additional power required a lot of upgraded parts. This setup ended up making a stout 535hp at only 20psi.

In addition to the upgraded power, Kevin chose to build the one of the sexiest Corrados in the country. This included dozens of hours of shaving, tweaking, pulling, and reworking the body, courtesy of another longtime friend, Juan Perez. Juan’s attention to detail and desire for perfection led to several changes in the overall vision. For example, he insisted that the fuel door be shaved to achieve symmetry between the two sides of the car. After Juan worked his magic on the body, one of Juan’s colleagues at the body shop, Daniel, sprayed the car in the limited-edition R8 color Ipanema Brown, a metallic copper color with three coats of clear that gives the car an incredible finish.

In the quest for a more drivable setup on mountain roads, we decided to swap in the 24 valve 3.2L Vr6 from an R32. A great setup that just needed a bit more on top so Supercharger Innovations was contacted to create a bracket kit for a Vortech V1 blower on the 3.2 in the Corrado chassis. To reduce the chance of belt slip, a cogged pulley setup was created. Quite possibly the only 3.2L swapped V1 cogged Corrado in existence, this setup makes approximately 350hp with a very linear powerband suited for canyon carving.
