FSI DV – OEM Upgrade

One of the most common failure points on the 2.0T FSI engine is the rubber diaphragm in the OEM diverter valve (DV). While it is much more common on cars with increased boost pressure (i.e., vehicles with performance software), they can fail even at stock boost levels. The FSI was the first engine platform in the VW line to use an electrically actuated solenoid valve, instead of the traditional vacuum-operated diverter valve that came on the previous generation’s 1.8t.

There are all sorts of DV upgrades on the market today. Some of these, like the Forge Motorsport unit fit in machined hole in the turbo compressor housing, similar to the stock DV. Others, the BSH Speedshop unit, for example, relocate the DV right off the throttle body pipe and use the factory “noise pipe” to re-route the compressed air back into the intake tract.

However, there is a solution that comes directly from Volkswagen/Audi, performs exactly like the stock unit, and uses a metal piston instead of a rubber diaphragm. Basically, it eliminates the failure point while delivering OEM-like performance. That means that there are no vacuum lines to run, no electrical doodads to trick the computer into thinking the stock DV is still plugged in, and you can rest assured that it will deliver solid performance. The upgraded diverter valve cams stock on the redesigned 2.0T (TSI) engine that debuted in the middle of 2008. We typically keep the TSI DV in stock and it is a very popular upgrade for anyone, whether chipped or stock. If you are having a boost issue on your FSI and you still have the stock DV, this is the first thing you should be checking.
