BorgWarner, to most VW/Audi owners, is the company that made the K03 you have to upgrade if you want to make “real power” on your 1.8t, 2.0t, or 2.7t. Usually, when the enthusiast gets tired of stock-turbo power levels, BorgWarner turbochargers are not even considered for upgrade. That is.. until now.
With their new turbo line, EFR (Engineered for Racing), BorgWarner sets out to totally redesign the turbocharger, from the ground up, using the best technology available. Some of these improvements are natural progressions of previous innovations, such as using lighter and stronger materials (Gamma TiAl, or Titanium Aluminide) for the turbine wheel and shaft assemblies or redesigning the blade geometry for improved aerodynamic performance and efficiency. On the other hand, some of the changes, such as the integrated bypass valve and a factory machined location for the shaft speed sensor, are not so common with aftermarket turbochargers.
All of the features (outlined below) come together to create a symphony of technology, efficiency, and power.
